THANE: A spicy honeytrap story is popping out of Thane! Independent MLA Shivaji Patil from Chandgad assembly in Kolhapur district has sounded the alarm after a woman tried to trick and blackmail him through WhatsApp. The woman, whose name is still a mystery, reportedly sent obscene chats, photos, and videos to the MLA. She then twisted the knife by demanding Rs 5 to 10 lakh for her father's medical treatment. The MLA spilled the beans in his police complaint, saying, "She wanted to extract money by threatening to destroy my reputation." The drama started back in September 2024 when unknown numbers flooded his phone with calls and messages. At first, the MLA ignored these repeated WhatsApp calls. But curiosity got the better of him, and when he finally picked up, the woman claimed to know him and wanted to be friends. Smart and cautious, Patil blocked her number. But wait, the plot thickens! New calls started from a different number, with the same woman, now using another name, bombarding him with obscene content again. Police say when he resisted, she threatened to file false complaints and leak all those unpleasant chats and videos just to sully his good name. Not stopping there, she showed her desperate side by sending her Aadhaar card and a bank account number, begging for the money to save her ill father. But the MLA stood firm and refused to pay. The woman kept fueling the fire with her threats. Thanks to Patil’s swift action, he submitted all the evidence—WhatsApp chats, photos, and call logs—to Chitalsar police station in Thane. Now, police are cracking down and have registered a case under the Information Technology Act 2000 (Section 67) for sharing obscene material electronically and Section 308 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for extortion. This hot case is a big warning for politicians and everyone about the dangers lurking behind innocent messages. The hunt to catch this cunning woman is on, bringing some police masala to the tale!
