UP's BLO Suicide Sparks Storm: Pressure To Drop Voter Names From Caste Group?
November 27, 2025
In a chilling development from Uttar Pradesh's Gonda district, Vipin Yadav, a BLO (Booth Level Officer) and assistant teacher, ended his life on Tuesday, November 25, 2025. His family alleges that unbearable pressure from local officials during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise pushed him over the edge. They claim Yadav was forced to drop names of voters from a particular caste group.
Vipin Yadav, who hailed from Malani Sarai Khas in Jaunpur district, was serving as an assistant teacher at Jaitpur Majha Primary School in Nawabganj block and as a BLO in Khempur gram panchayat. A tearful relative shared in a viral video, "The SDM and the BDO threatened him and asked him to remove the names of OBC voters. Before dying, he told me over the phone that the officers were threatening to suspend him."
The Gonda District Administration, however, denied all accusations, stating that "everyone involved in the SIR exercise was doing the work as per rules." They called the claims of caste-based voter name removal "completely false." A special committee has been set up to investigate Vipin Yadav's death.
On the fateful Tuesday morning, the official allegedly consumed poison. Teachers rushed him to a private hospital, but his condition worsened. He was then referred to a medical college in Lucknow, where he was declared dead.
The tragedy has lit a political fire. Opposition parties accuse the BJP government of using "dictatorial working style" to harass honest officers. Senior Congress leader Anil Yadav said, "The Election Commission and the BJP government together are ruining the entire country. This is not just a personal tragedy; it is a proof of the dictatorial working style of the BJP, where honest officers are threatened to remove voters’ names."
He added passionately, "A young man who works hard like a farmer to earn a living is killed under pressure. It is clear that the BJP government does not value the lives of the youth of Uttar Pradesh and issues instruction to cut names of people hailing from marginalized sections. This politics of vote-cutting, citizenship-stripping, and trampling on people’s rights must end now."
This heartbreaking incident exposes the volatile mix of politics, pressure, and fear affecting even grassroots officials in Uttar Pradesh. The investigation committee’s findings are awaited eagerly as the nation watches closely.
