Panaji: Ravi Naik, a legendary figure in Goa’s politics with seven assembly terms, is not just known for his sharp political mind but also his funny, cheeky talks. His humor shines brightest during assembly sessions, breaking the boring political talks and giving everyone a good laugh. Last month, when a wild elephant named Omkar caused havoc in Pernem villages by destroying crops, Ravi Naik, who is the agriculture minister, gave a smile-worthy response. He said, “We will compensate any loss to farmers. I believe that the elephant is a form of Lord Ganesh. He has come to meet devotees, let him meet them.” Who else would think of an elephant as a divine visitor in such a mess? Ravi Naik’s birthday event was a laughter blast too, with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant joining the fun. Naik joked, “We have made roads for man and the devil,” referring to a new road for a place where the devchar, or guardian spirit, is worshipped. And he did not stop there! Pointing at CM Sawant, he said, “I am talking about govt, not him (pointing to the CM). He has plenty of the vitamin,” teasing about how government sometimes lacks Vitamin M (money). Maybe the best escape from a tough question was when a meeting with all ministers sparked rumors. Reporters asked Naik what happened after the session. With a playful smile, he replied, “Kya kiya? Chai piya, biscuit khaya (What did we do? We had tea and biscuits).” Who can say no to tea time jokes? During the 37th National Games hosted in Goa, Naik’s comic side appeared again. At the opening ceremony, while giving tips to athletes, he said, “Liquor is cheap in Goa, so are cashew nuts, but you should not drink because you are national players.” Light-hearted but clear advice! Ravi Naik's witty remarks and playful nature bring a lively spirit to Goa’s political and sports scene. His jokes make serious moments fun and remind everyone that a little humor can go a long way.
