Mumbai is buzzing with relief as Maharashtra's government has approved a whopping Rs 480.5 crore to help farmers who suffered due to floods in August and September. This juicy pot of money is set to reach around 6.7 lakh farmers in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar division and 4.4 lakh farmers in Amravati division. Last week, the state had already announced a massive relief package of Rs 31,628 crore for 60 lakh farmers affected by heavy rains and floods that devastated over 68.7 lakh hectares of crops across Maharashtra. This fresh Rs 480.5 crore will be handed out as an input subsidy under the State Disaster Relief Fund. What does that mean? It will help farmers get seeds, fertilizers, and other essentials for their next crop season. On top of that, the government is providing assistance for other approved needs under the State Disaster Response Fund. This is not Maharashtra's first rodeo with natural disasters – the state’s relief fund covers 12 calamities including unseasonal rains, droughts, landslides, and floods. The funds will flow into specific districts suffering the most. In Amravati division, Akola, Buldhana, and Washim will receive support, while in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar division, Jalna and Hingoli farmers will benefit. This step brings a bright light of hope for farmers looking to bounce back after nature’s fury struck their hard-earned crops.
