Meghana Gaonkar Breaks Her Own Rules: Why She Now Says 'Actress Must Take Up Many Projects!'

October 10, 2025

Meghana Gaonkar, a shining star in the film world, has turned a new leaf in her acting journey. Earlier, she stuck to a one-film-a-year rule, thinking that true commitment meant waiting for the perfect script. But now she says, “I’ve realised that an actor must take up as many projects as possible.” What changed her mind? She felt missing out during long breaks and decided to stay busy, taking on all kinds of films – good, average, or bad – to keep her passion alive. She boldly shares, “I needed to do more — one film a year simply wouldn’t satiate that feeling.” Meghana chooses roles that have strong, meaningful women characters. “Some people assumed I wasn’t doing more films because offers weren’t coming, but that’s not true. Offers have always come,” she insists, “But from the start, I’ve been insistent that my roles must contribute meaningfully to a project.” With projects like 'Choomantar' proving her acting power, Meghana reminds the industry, "I can perform!" Her journey also taught her the many layers of cinema. With a thesis and a PhD on cinema, Meghana says, “Today, I have a deeper insight into cinema: from producing to directing, marketing, promotions, social media impact, the political climate a film can create, changing the mindset of an audience.” She understands that movies aren’t just art; they’re a business too. This wide view helps her grasp producers’ and filmmakers’ feelings. She also recognizes the rising importance of women’s roles in films. "I have no reason to complain because I have only done films where women characters have been well etched and I have felt empowered," she says. But Meghana knows this depends on "better writers, better character arcs for women, directors who portray impactful female roles and better business for such films." She is hopeful this change will last and grow. In a candid tone, Meghana concludes, “It’s all about taking that internal journey and figuring things out for yourself. The rest will follow.” Her bold new outlook lights a path for actors who want to keep shining no matter what the offers say!
