The Israel-Hamas war is not just numbers, but the stats show how badly Gaza’s 2.1 million people have suffered. Imagine this: out of every 10 people in Gaza, one person has been killed or injured. Nine out of 10 have lost their homes, and at least three out of 10 are starving without food for days! The tiny Gaza Strip covers only 365 square kilometers, but 8 out of every 10 buildings and homes have been badly damaged or destroyed. Even the cropland, where farmers grow food like strawberries and wheat, has been destroyed. Nearly 8 out of every 10 acres of farm land lie in ruins. This brutal war started on October 7, 2023, when Hamas militants launched a surprise attack on Israel, killing around 1,200 people and taking 251 hostages. Israel responded with heavy airstrikes and a ground offensive promising to wipe out Hamas and free the hostages. The toll has been terrible. Gaza’s Health Ministry reports over 67,000 Palestinians killed and nearly 170,000 wounded. Tens of thousands have life-changing injuries. Whole families have died in their homes from airstrikes. Cemeteries are overflowing, and mass graves are sadly common. Doctors in Gaza are struggling without enough medical supplies. Israel blames Hamas for hiding fighters in hospitals and residential areas. Because of this, Israeli strikes sometimes hit homes with no clear targets, killing many civilians. Despite this, the Ministry's numbers are trusted by the U.N. and experts. Almost the whole Gaza population is now displaced, moving from place to place to escape bombing. Many live in crowded, dirty tent camps in Gaza’s south. Families have been split as Israeli troops detain men for suspicion of Hamas ties. Israel controls most of Gaza now. They have crushed neighborhoods and built military bases, covering Gaza in rubble roughly 12 times bigger than the Great Pyramid of Giza! Satellite images show over 102,000 buildings destroyed, including schools, mosques, clinics, and homes. Food is scarce. Over 400 people, including more than 100 children, have died from malnutrition this year alone. Aid groups declared Gaza City a famine zone in August, although Israel disputes this. Crowded charity kitchens show people struggling daily just to get a simple meal. Entire towns like Khuzaa, once fertile and full of crops, have been erased by bombs and bulldozers. Now, Israel’s offensive aims to capture Gaza City and kill Hamas militants hiding there. Meanwhile, about 48 hostages remain trapped in Gaza, with hopes lingering for their release. On the Israeli side, 465 soldiers have lost their lives in Gaza so far. Amid this chaos, a new American peace plan has been proposed, though heavy fighting continues in Gaza City’s heart. The war’s destruction on Gaza is immense, with sorrow written in every number.
