Army Rushes New SAKSHAM Drone Defense System After Pakistani Swarm Attacks in Operation Sindoor

October 10, 2025

After facing waves of Pakistani drone swarms during Operation Sindoor, the Indian Army has zoomed its efforts to build a powerful indigenous counter-drone shield called the SAKSHAM system. This clever defense tool fights off enemy drones using both 'soft kill' (jamming) and 'hard kill' (destruction) methods. Developed hand-in-hand with Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL), SAKSHAM links through the secure Army Data Network (ADN). This means all Army units get a real-time, clear picture of the drone battlefield. The Army calls this new space - the air up to 3,000 meters above ground - the Tactical Battlefield Space. This is more than just ground war; now the sky is a vital combat zone. "The system is designed to detect, track, identify and neutralise hostile drones and unmanned aerial systems in real time, ensuring complete airspace security across what is now defined as the Tactical Battlefield Space," shared sources familiar with the project. The goal? Keep the airspace under ground force control, letting friendly drones and aircraft fly free while instantly spotting and stopping enemy ones. SAKSHAM also uses a smart automated decision support system powered by AI. It pulls data from sensors and weapons, making quick, intelligent choices in the heat of battle. Plus, it will sync with the bigger Sudarshan Chakra defense network soon. This project got a green light under the Fast Track Procurement route, showing how seriously the Army is taking drone threats. They plan to roll out SAKSHAM to all field units within a year—fast, furious, and futuristic! In short, SAKSHAM is set to become the Army's eagle eye in the sky, defending India’s borders with cutting-edge tech and swift action.
