Trump Calls Greta Thunberg 'Troublemaker' After Gaza Flotilla Saga; Peace Talks Begin in Egypt

October 8, 2025

US President Donald Trump did not hold back his words against young climate activist Greta Thunberg! After Thunberg was caught up in a huge drama—detained and deported by Israel during the Global Sumud Flotilla heading to Gaza—Trump slammed her as a "troublemaker" with an "anger management problem." He said, "She (Greta Thunberg) is just a troublemaker... she's no longer into the environment now. She's a troublemaker. She has an anger management problem. I think she should see a doctor...Have you ever watched her? She's a young person. She's so angry, she's so crazy... She's just a troublemaker." What stirred all this drama? Greta joined over 160 campaigners on the Global Sumud Flotilla aiming to break Israel's naval blockade of Gaza by delivering aid. But Israel wasn't having any of it. They intercepted the flotilla’s 40+ boats, detained some 450 activists including Greta and four French lawmakers, and expelled 171 of them, according to Al Jazeera. These actions pushed the total number of deportations to 341. Israeli officials claimed the boats carried no real aid and accused participants of seeking "provocation in the service of Hamas." They also shared documents saying Hamas had directly organized and funded this "close-knit" flotilla to break the blockade. Despite reports from some sides claiming detainees were mistreated, Israel's Foreign Ministry strongly denied these, calling them "brazen lies" and assuring that "all the detainees' legal rights are fully upheld." The blockade itself has been hotly contested since Hamas took control of Gaza in 2007, with Israel and Egypt enforcing it to stop weapon smuggling. Palestinian activists have challenged this blockade repeatedly through such flotillas. A UN inquiry back in 2011 criticized Israel for excessive force during a similar incident but confirmed the blockade's legality. Adding to the tension is the tragic backdrop of the October 7 attacks by Hamas, which killed about 1,200 people and took 252 hostages. About 20 hostages are still believed alive. On the peace front, Trump gave credit to several countries helping to ease the crisis. "Qatar has been very, very helpful to us in this process... I think it's probably the most influential and very strong. With Hamas, they're very strong. And Turkey has likewise been helpful. I mean, honestly, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, everybody has been helpful. I just spoke with the King of Jordan today, and he's been terrific too. I can't think of any country is it that's been negative about this. This is why it should happen. I mean, everybody wants it to happen. And usually when everybody, including I think Hamas, and when they want it to happen, it's going to happen," Trump said. Fingers crossed as delegations from Hamas, Israel, and the US gear up for indirect talks in Egypt’s Red Sea city, Sharm el-Sheikh. The goal: to discuss Trump's 20-point peace plan and finally end the deadly war. The talks open on the eve of the second anniversary of the Hamas attacks that sparked this devastating conflict. Could this be the dawn of peace for Gaza? Time will tell!
