Get ready for some exciting news from Chennai! The Tamil Nadu government just signed a cool deal with Japanese car giant Nissan. This deal is all about setting up a training center right here in Chennai to skill 100 engineers. But wait, there’s a twist! These engineers won’t just learn tech – they’ll also be taught how to speak Japanese. Why? Because after training, they’ll get jobs at Nissan’s centers in Japan! Industries Minister TRB Rajaa shared this at the Tamil Nadu European Free Trade Association (EFTA) Business Summit 2025, organized by the Southern India Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) along with Guidance Tamil Nadu. Rajaa was clear, “Tamil Nadu has a passion for Industries and we want to add value to the tech be it Swiss precision or German quality.... Our intention is not to sign MOUs for the sake of it or for highlighting the investment numbers. Our focus is on conversion and providing employment opportunities to the youth of Tamil Nadu.” Sounds like solid commitment, right? The summit was buzzing with important guests like Maya Tissafi, Ambassador of Switzerland to India & Bhutan, and Benedikt Höskuldsson, Ambassador of Iceland to India. Maya told everyone that the EFTA countries - including Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein - plan to invest a whopping $100 billion in India over the next 15 years and create 1 million jobs here! Benedikt added how the TEPA trade deal will boost business between India and Iceland, especially in premium seafood, technology, and geothermal energy. To keep the momentum going, Rajaa called for a special working group with EFTA members and SICCI to keep the talks strong and focused with clear deadlines. SICCI has also set up an EFTA Desk to push this collaboration further. With such big plans and clear focus, Tamil Nadu is gearing up to be a shining star in the world of industry and global trade!
