Drama unfolded in Jalpaiguri's flood-hit Nagrakata area as BJP MP Khagen Murmu and MLA Sankar Ghosh faced a shocking attack on Monday! Around 50 angry villagers surrounded the two leaders, pelting stones and swinging bamboo sticks. The BJP leaders’ cars were completely ransacked. Murmu was left bleeding badly from his nose with serious head and face injuries. Even some journalists got hurt in this chaotic scene. The attack happened just as the leaders arrived to check flood damage at Bamandanga. Central Armed Police Forces jawans accompanying them had to quickly drag both leaders into their vehicles for safety. In a brave video message from the convoy, MLA Ghosh stated, “This was how we were attacked. Not a single windowpane of our car is intact... Our MP is seriously injured. Total anarchy is prevailing in West Bengal.” Prime Minister Narendra Modi angrily spoke out, calling the attack a clear sign of "the insensitivity of TMC as well as the absolutely pathetic law and order situation in the state." He wished the Bengal government and TMC focused more on helping flood victims instead of violence. On the other hand, TMC leaders claimed the villagers were upset because the BJP leaders were only there for a photo opportunity, not for real help. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee appealed for calm, saying "untoward incidents are undesirable at this time" and ordered DGP Rajeev Kumar to take immediate action. This fiery clash in flood-hit Bengal adds yet another twist to the political battle as people suffer from natural disaster and violence. Will peace return to the fields and rivers of Jalpaiguri soon?
