Himachal Pradesh Gets Ready for Stormy Weather: Orange and Yellow Alerts Issued for Heavy Rain, Hail, and Thunderstorms

October 5, 2025

Shimla is waking up to exciting but wild weather news! Himachal Pradesh, where the southwest monsoon had packed up by the end of September, is now gearing up for a fresh splash of rain starting from October 5. The meteorological station in Shimla sounded the alarm with an orange alert on Saturday. This means hail, heavy to very heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds rushing through six districts on October 6. These winds won’t be meek either, with speeds zooming between 40 to 50 kilometers per hour! If you live in Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Sirmaur, or Lahaul and Spiti, mark October 6 as a day to stay alert. But wait, October 5 isn’t letting the fun down either! A yellow warning has been issued, promising heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds of 30 to 40 kmph at scattered spots across all 12 districts. That's Himachal's way of saying, "Get your umbrellas ready!" And the weather caution continues on October 7 with yellow alerts for Una, Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, Kinnaur, plus Lahaul and Spiti. The Met office forecasts light to moderate rainfall in most places on October 6 and 7, with one or two rounds of heavy rains across the state. Even October 7 and 8 won’t be quiet, with some towns seeing the wet magic by spells. Saturday was calm before the storm, with mostly dry skies and temperatures sitting 2 to 3 degrees above normal during the day. The chilliest spots, however, were not too cool either! Una and Seobagh topped the heat charts at 34 degrees Celsius each, followed by Neri at 33.1, Bilaspur at 33, and the cooler hill stations like Dharamshala (28.1), Shimla (22.6), and Manali (22.5) showing milder temps. So, Himachal residents and tourists, brace yourselves for a rollercoaster ride of wild weather starting October 5! Whether it’s enjoying the fresh rains or staying safe indoors during hail and thunderstorms, the hills promise some thrilling weather drama.
