Rajnath Singh Hails Defence Accounts Department’s Silent Role Behind Operation Sindoor Victory

NEW DELHI: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday gave a big shout-out to the Defence Accounts Department (DAD) for their “silent role” in the success of Operation Sindoor. At the 278th foundation day celebration of the DAD, Singh praised their smart financial planning, which played a key part in keeping the armed forces ready and effective. Operation Sindoor was India's strong reply to the terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which tragically killed 26 people. On the early morning of May 7, India struck back by targeting terror and military spots in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. This sparked a fierce four-day military face-off until both sides agreed to stop fighting on May 10. Following the ceasefire, the government empowered the armed forces to make quick emergency purchases worth about ₹40,000 crore. Singh said the DAD is more than just an accounting agency; it is “the invisible bridge that connects finance and the armed forces.” He explained how DAD’s work ensures money flows smoothly, helping the military stay ready to fight. "While the whole world saw the bravery of our soldiers, the DAD quietly ensured smart use of resources, financial management, and preparation for war,” Singh stated. He proudly shared that as of September 30, half of the capital budget was already spent, showing the department’s efficiency. The Defence Minister also highlighted the importance of new technology in modern warfare, which takes years of research and development. He urged the DAD to support this innovative spirit by enabling budgets for R&D to build future defence powers. Pushing for teamwork, Singh said the DAD should aid the jointness among the Army, Navy, and Air Force through smart financial systems. "You are one of the few departments with presence from grassroots to top army HQs. Work closely with the services to help them integrate better," he advised. Lastly, Singh emphasized balancing strict financial discipline with urgent operational needs. "Every rupee belongs to the people of India, so rules must be followed strictly. But you must also ensure the forces get what they need quickly," he said. He believes these twin goals can work hand-in-hand with proper coordination. In this vibrant celebration, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh reminded everyone that behind every soldier’s courage lies the hard, often unseen work of the Defence Accounts Department, making sure India’s defence machinery ticks perfectly.
