Karnataka is reeling under the impact of heavy rains and floods that have damaged crops on a massive scale — more than 8.60 lakh hectares lost this year! But don’t worry, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is flying high to see the damage first-hand. He is set to conduct an aerial survey of the flood-hit areas on Tuesday. After that, the government will decide how to help affected farmers and families. Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda spoke to reporters on Monday, warning that ongoing rains could make things worse. Once the land dries, Deputy Commissioners will do detailed ground surveys to measure the full harm. “Through the aerial survey, the Chief Minister will examine losses caused by floods and heavy rainfall, and relief will be provided accordingly,” he promised. Why so much rain trouble? Some districts like Vijayapura, Kalaburagi, Bidar, Yadgir, and Raichur have seen 4% or more excess rainfall between August and September. This caused floods along the Krishna and Bhima rivers, soaking farms and ruining crops. Thankfully, no loss of life has been reported. On the flip side, Malnad, coastal districts, and parts of Southern Karnataka have gotten less rain than usual, adding to agricultural worries. To help people fast, Deputy Commissioners have ₹1,385 crore ready for relief work. Around 75 relief centres are already open, offering food, shelter, and essentials to nearly 9,000 people caught in the flood fury. Political heat is rising too! Minister Byre Gowda took a jab at the BJP, saying, “It looks like they have just woken up from sleep.” BJP leaders stayed silent for a long time and are only now visiting flood-hit spots. When asked about BJP’s visits planned for Tuesday, he calmly replied, “We and our officials have been on the ground for over a month, working for the protection and relief of people hit by floods and heavy rains. The Opposition seems to have just woken up. Since they are in the Opposition, let them do their inspections. We have no objection. Ultimately, it should benefit the people.” So, amidst heavy rains, political sparks and flood waters, Karnataka braces for relief and recovery. Will Siddaramaiah’s aerial survey lead to swift help for farmers? Stay tuned!
