Jammu and Kashmir's Chief Minister Omar Abdullah sounded a strong warning on Monday, September 29, 2025. He told the Centre not to play with the emotions and patience of the J&K people by denying them the promised Statehood status. "It doesn’t take time for a situation to grow grim. I do not want the blood of innocents to be spilled again. I am only for peaceful means. But the Centre should not test the patience of people. We do not want it to reach to the level witnessed in Ladakh," said Mr. Abdullah. He firmly demanded the restoration of J&K's Statehood, stressing that this is "not a favour" but a fundamental right. "Statehood is a fundamental right. It was promised by the Centre and the Supreme Court. We were told after the delimitation and Assembly elections, Statehood will follow. Statehood is a crucial measure to maintain stability," the Chief Minister explained. Mr. Abdullah also pointed out that simply changing the constitutional status is not enough to improve lives. "It’s evident from the situation in Ladakh," he added, highlighting the ongoing troubles there after status changes. Omar Abdullah’s fiery words remind the Centre that keeping promises matters. The people of Jammu and Kashmir await Statehood eagerly, hoping for peace and progress without any repeat of past bloodshed. Will the Centre listen this time and bring back the promised Statehood? Only time will tell.
