Get ready for a thrilling teacher recruitment race in West Bengal! On Sunday, September 14, 2025, a whopping 2.46 lakh candidates will appear for the School Service Commission (SSC) examination to grab the much-coveted assistant teacher posts for Classes XI and XII. These tests, called the School Level Selection Test (SLST), will buzz across 478 centers throughout the state. Just a week earlier, on September 7, around 3.19 lakh aspirants had taken the first phase of this recruitment battle for Classes IX and X at 636 exam centers without a hitch. Officials proudly confirmed that the first phase ran smoothly, setting the stage for an exciting second round. But hold on, this is not just any recruitment exam. The WBSSC is conducting these tests after a stormy 2016 recruitment process was declared "tainted and vitiated" by the Supreme Court. Because of that, around 26,000 teachers and staff lost their jobs, sending shock waves through the education system. To clean up the mess, WBSSC introduced clever security features on every question paper. These unique IDs help track candidates and make sure no cheating happens. The Supreme Court also ordered WBSSC to keep out those who cleared the 2016 exams through unfair ways, listed as 1,806 "tainted" teachers. Adding to the drama, candidates must arrive at exam venues from 10 a.m. — two full hours before the exam starts to complete the strict security checks. "No electronic devices or mobile phones have been allowed," said WBSSC chairman Siddhartha Majumdar. Even exam supervisors and SSC officials must hand over their phones outside the exam halls. With tight security, huge crowds, and a high-stakes battle for teaching jobs, the SSC exams on September 14 promise to be a lively, nail-biting event for thousands of dreamers across West Bengal!
