French Woman's Fun First Try Eating With Hands in India Goes Viral on Social Media

September 14, 2025

In a lively and heartwarming moment, Julia Chaigneau, a French woman living in India for two years, shared her first experience of eating with her hands in a long time — and her story went viral on X! Julia revealed how something so simple can open our eyes to the magic of senses in everyday life. "I grew up eating pizza and burgers with a knife and fork. Not by choice, by ‘punishment’," she wrote, explaining that in France, eating with hands is seen as rude due to cultural rules. But when a friend nudged her to give it a try again after many years, Julia felt something stunning happening. "At first, it felt awkward, almost rebellious. Then something shifted. I could feel the heat before it burned my tongue. Sense textures. Mix flavours; no fork is ever allowed. I even wasted less," she joyfully shared. As a designer, she says this experience made her realize how we often forget the full power of our senses in simple moments like eating. Since then, she's remembered to bring that magic back. Her post excited many online! One user laughed, “A pizza with a fork? I could never. Glad you’re enjoying it now,” while another joked, “Honestly Show us how to eat pizza with a fork. For once only.” When asked if she would go back to using cutlery once she returns to Western life, Julia cheekily replied, “Who said I was going back, haha.” This isn’t Julia’s first food adventure in India. Just last month, she tried the famous Onam Sadhya feast and shared her delightful experience. Julia’s story reminds us all how tasty and fun it can be to dive into new food traditions with an open heart and empty hands!
