In a fiery Senate confirmation hearing, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio did not hold back his praise for India! He called India "one of the top relationships that the US has in the world today" while introducing Sergio Gor, the nominee for US Ambassador to India. Rubio said this at the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Thursday. Rubio went on to paint India as the heart of the Indo-Pacific, which he called the future's most important story. He said, “In the 21st century, the story is going to be written in the Indo-Pacific.” To show how important India is, the US even changed the name of their combatant command to “Indo-Pacific.” "India is at the core of that," he added. The Secretary of State stressed that the India-US relationship is going through an "extraordinary transition." With big world issues like the conflict in Ukraine and regional security threats, close teamwork between India and the US is vital. "We are in a period of extraordinary transition in that relationship with India; we have some really important issues coming up that we need to work with them on and work through," Rubio explained. When it came to Sergio Gor, Rubio was full of confidence. He praised Gor, 38, saying he has known him a long time and that Gor enjoys rare access to President Trump. Rubio believes this connection will help Gor "get things done" and strengthen ties between the two countries. "When you interact with these countries, having a representative in a place like India that has direct access to the Oval Office and to the President and who they know can get things done... is critically important," he said. Sergio Gor is currently the Director of Presidential Personnel at the White House and was nominated by Trump to replace former Ambassador Eric Garcetti who left in January. If confirmed, Gor would make history as the youngest US Ambassador to India. Gor himself shared warm words about India during the hearing. He called India a "strategic partner" and highlighted how New Delhi's location, economy, and military strength are key to peace and prosperity in the region. "India is one of the most important relationships our nation has in the world," Gor declared. With this dynamic duo pushing forward, the US-India partnership looks ready to shine brighter than ever!
