India Warns SCO Nations Against Misusing Export Rules, Calls for Fair Trade and Big Boost to Digital and AVGC Sectors

September 9, 2025

India shook the SCO trade ministers' meeting in Vladivostok with a sharp warning! The country urged SCO members not to misuse export measures to create fake shortages or disturb business. India stressed that only clear and careful use of such rules can keep trust alive in global trade. In the meeting held on September 6, India laid down some spicy truths about fair business practices. It called for an open, fair, and all-inclusive world trade system with the World Trade Organization (WTO) playing the lead role. India insisted on a strong focus on development — like settling food security issues permanently, supporting developing countries, and fixing the WTO’s dispute system to work properly again. Did you know the SCO covers 42% of the world’s people and 17.2% of global trade? India called for smart teamwork to boost trade, fix weak spots, and help everyone grow. The key recipe? Spread supply and production chains far and wide, improve smooth logistics, ensure markets stay open, and strengthen connections — all while respecting each nation’s sovereignty. India also pointed out the nagging problem of trade imbalances and said these must be solved with better market access, shared standards, and smoother trade rules. Amitabh Kumar, India’s additional commerce secretary, added that climate-linked trade actions should not arbitrarily hit anyone unfairly. Instead, such measures should come with financial help and easy technology access. He also highlighted the magic of service trade and allowing skilled workers to move temporarily under clear laws. This helps small and medium businesses join global value chains more easily. On the digital front, India proposed new SCO workstreams to build fair, clear, and predictable rules, share best practices voluntarily, and boost capacity for safe and innovative digital growth. But wait, there’s more! India spotlighted the glowing potential of the animation, visual effects, gaming, and comics (AVGC) sector as a powerful job creator, export champ, and engine for inclusive growth. In short, India brought its A-game to the SCO table: cautioning, inspiring, and lighting up new paths for trade and technology!
