Panaji witnessed a fiery court drama as the Mapusa court decided to grant bail to Royson Rodrigues, 50, a key player accused in two major land grabbing cases. The court's sharp observation was that the reasons to keep him locked up weren’t strong enough and that strict conditions could handle the situation just fine.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by the crime branch, strongly opposed this bail. They labeled Rodrigues as the ``kingpin of the land grab syndicate.'' They claimed he didn't cooperate with them and that Rodrigues and his gang made fake documents out of hard-to-track materials that are yet to be found. "If bailed out, he will destroy the evidence," the court was warned.
The state revealed that these fake title documents, allegedly prepared by Rodrigues, are crucial to the case. The SIT also shared how Rodrigues has cruelly ``victimised and grabbed properties of the innocent public,'' even as many victim details remain a mystery. Where did they get the forged stamp papers? The court wants answers.
Moreover, the SIT pointed fingers at illegal cash deals behind property sales, a major lead that still needs digging. Adding a dramatic twist, the SIT claimed that Rodrigues dared to challenge the entire government system and its departments in Goa.
Unveiling the bigger picture, police told the court, these crimes are white-collar, cleverly organised, and have caused a ``big dent on the economy of the state.'' However, the judge seemed convinced that keeping Rodrigues locked up wasn't necessary at this stage, opening the door for his release with set conditions.
The battle isn’t over yet. The investigation continues to unravel the tangled web of land frauds in Goa. Will justice catch up with Rodrigues and his gang? Only time will tell!
