In the vibrant town of Ponda, the power minister Ramkrishna ‘Sudin’ Dhavalikar has spoken firmly about a hot topic among electricity users – the shifting of power meters. The state’s electricity department had given all consumers a notice: move your power meters to easy-to-reach places before November 28, or face the possibility of disconnection. Why this rush? As the chief engineer explained, “As per the regulatory norms, meters should be fixed at places easily accessible to the readers and insulated against adverse weather conditions.” This means the meters must be safe and easy for staff to read, avoiding any trouble during bad weather. Though some consumers applied for shifting their meters, minister Dhavalikar made it clear in Ponda, “Considering the number of applicants, the government had extended the last date. However, the consumers should understand that there could be some more accidents during the extended period.” His message is loud and clear: no more extensions!
