The scene was fiery outside Shri Ram Swaroop Memorial University in Barabanki on September 1, 2025, as ABVP workers and students raised voices against what they called 'illegal admissions' for the LLB course. How could a university run a course without proper recognition? This question sparked a heated protest. ABVP claimed that the university has been cheating students since 2022 by falsely declaring that the law degree had Bar Council of India recognition. They also pointed fingers at the university for kicking out students unfairly, charging hefty fines for late fee payments, and even opposing a patriotic ’Tiranga Yatra’ held by students on August 15. But the protest took a wild turn. As the protesters demanded a meeting with the Vice-Chancellor, the university administration called them “outsiders” and suddenly the police stepped in. What followed was a brutal lathi charge that left 25 ABVP workers and students injured! Shocking, right? The ABVP quickly fired back in a statement, saying, "The issue turned confrontational when the university administration allegedly deployed police forces, who then lathi-charged the peacefully protesting students as they sought a meeting with the Vice-Chancellor." The Uttar Pradesh government did not waste time. On September 2, 2025, they took strict action by removing Circle Officer Harshit Chauhan from his post. The investigation was handed over to Inspector General of Ayodhya Range, Praveen Kumar. And in a clear message, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ordered authorities to handle the matter seriously. This incident has opened up a battleground over student rights, education quality, and police action in Uttar Pradesh. Will justice be served? The whole state is watching!
