Hold tight, Goans! Ponda has just joined the elite club of places in Goa that have received over 3,000mm of rainfall this monsoon. It poured heavily with 58mm in the last 24 hours alone, taking Ponda’s total to a whopping 3,016.6mm since June 1. This makes Ponda one of the top rain buddies alongside Dharbandora, which leads with a massive 3,708.4mm, followed closely by Sanguem (3,704.6mm), Quepem (3,469.5mm), and Valpoi (3,339.1mm). Sanquelim is not far behind at 2,905.6mm and might soon crash the 3,000mm party. On the other hand, Dabolim remains the dry guy with the lowest rainfall tally of just 1,964.5mm. With rains pouring relentlessly this past week, Goa is soaking in one of its wettest monsoon spells this year. But wait, there’s more – the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has raised the yellow alert flag till September 4. They warn of heavy rains at some spots across North and South Goa. That’s not all! A squally weather warning is in effect from August 31 to September 2, bringing fierce winds of 40-50 kmph, roaring up to 60 kmph near the Maharashtra-Goa coast. IMD firmly advises fishermen to stay onshore during these days to avoid getting caught in the angry sea. So, it’s time to grab your umbrellas and stay alert as Goa’s monsoon rides its wild wave. The rains are here to show off their power, and we must respect nature’s stormy moods!
