Tragic Tourist Bus Crash Near Niagara Falls Kills Five, Injures Many

August 24, 2025

A deadly accident jolted New York state on Friday when a tourist bus crashed on a highway about 40 km east of Buffalo. The bus, filled with 54 passengers returning to New York City after a joyful day at Niagara Falls, suddenly lost control and went off the road. Sadly, five passengers passed away, belonging to Indian, Chinese, and Filipino origins. Thankfully, no children were among the dead, and all other passengers are out of life-threatening danger. New York state police commander Major Andre Ray was at the crash site and said, “It's believed the operator became distracted, lost control, over corrected and ended up... over there.” He reassured everyone that mechanical failure, intoxication, or impairment were ruled out. No charges have been filed so far. The rescue was a massive effort: eight helicopters flew in to airlift the injured, Mercy Flight president Margaret Ferrentino shared. Because many passengers spoke different languages, translators were called in to help survivors communicate and understand what was happening. A police spokesman added, “The driver is alive and well -- we're working with him. We believe we have a good idea of what happened, why the bus lost control. We just want to make sure that all the details are thoroughly vetted.” New York Governor Kathy Hochul quickly stepped in, coordinating with state police and local officials to support victims and their families. At the same time, the blood and organ donor network Connect Life asked the public to donate blood urgently. Senior New York Senator Chuck Schumer expressed deep sorrow, saying, “I'm heartbroken for all those we've lost and all those injured and praying for their families. Thank you to our brave first responders on the scene.” This tragedy hits close to home since Niagara Falls is a shining star of tourism at the US-Canada border and attracts millions every year hoping to witness its magical waterfalls.
