Mumbai’s Heavy Rains Slam Flights! IndiGo, SpiceJet & Akasa Air Warn of Delays Amid Red Alert

August 19, 2025

Mumbai is facing a wet and wild weather drama! Heavy rains have flooded several routes to the airport leading to waterlogged roads and traffic jams. IndiGo, SpiceJet, and Akasa Air have thrown up red flags for travelers, warning of flight delays and urging everyone to plan extra time and keep a close eye on flight status. IndiGo shared a heartfelt apology for any trouble caused during this soggy mess, saying, "With Mumbai drenched in heavy showers, several routes to the airport are witnessing waterlogging and sluggish traffic. This has, in turn, led to operational challenges, with delays in both departures and arrivals and we truly regret the inconvenience this may cause." They also assured passengers that their teams are watching the situation closely and working hard to keep things running smoothly: "Your safety, comfort, and peace of mind remain our priority." SpiceJet added their voice with a similar alert, mentioning, "Due to bad weather in Mumbai (BOM), all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights may get affected. Passengers are requested to keep a check on their flight status." Not to be left behind, Akasa Air advised travelers about heavy rains not just in Mumbai but in Hyderabad, Goa, Pune, and Guwahati too. They warned of slow traffic leading to airports and said, "To ensure a seamless travel experience, we request you to plan for additional travel time to reach the airport well in time for your flight. Please check your flight status." The India Meteorological Department (IMD) isn’t holding back either. It has flashed a red alert for Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad, hinting at extremely heavy rainfall in some areas. Mumbai alone got soaked with a whopping 177 mm of rain in just 6-8 hours! Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis raised a serious voice on Monday, warning everyone about the extreme weather. He said, "In the last 2 days, Maharashtra has received widespread rainfall. Red Alert and Orange Alert have been issued for several districts. Even for the next three days, until 21st August, half of the districts in Maharashtra have either Red Alert or Orange Alert. We discussed the precautions that need to be taken due to this." With high tides and more heavy showers expected, the message is clear: Stay safe, plan extra time, and keep those flight status apps handy. Mumbai’s weather game is proving to be a wild roller coaster, and the airlines are doing their best to keep passengers informed and safe.
