U.S. President Donald Trump shook the house at the Israeli parliament in Jerusalem on Monday! In a more than one-hour speech, he made a surprising demand. "Hey, I have an idea. Mr. President, why don't you give him a pardon? Cigars and some champagne - who the hell cares?" Trump said, directly asking Israeli President Isaac Herzog to pardon Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Netanyahu is currently facing serious charges of fraud, bribery, and breach of trust - all of which he denies. The corruption trial started in 2020 but has been delayed many times due to wars and unrest in the Middle East. One key charge includes Netanyahu allegedly getting almost 700,000 shekels (about $210,000) worth of gifts like champagne and cigars from businessmen. Talk about expensive presents! While Israel's President mostly has a ceremonial job, he can pardon someone if there are unusual reasons. But, so far, Netanyahu’s trial is still ongoing with no verdict yet. Trump has been a strong supporter of Netanyahu for long. Back in June, he even called for Netanyahu's trial to be cancelled. Netanyahu himself calls these legal troubles a "left-wing witch-hunt" designed to topple the elected right-wing leader. This spirited plea from Trump adds more spice to an already hot political drama in Israel. Will President Herzog light up those cigars and pop the champagne? The world is watching!
