August 19, 2025

A heartbreaking tragedy struck Hyderabad early Tuesday morning, August 19, 2025, when a Ganesh idol being moved from Laxmi Nagar to Puranapul touched high-tension electrical wires in Bandlaguda, causing electrocution that took two young lives. Tony, 21, and Vikas, 22, died instantly on the spot. Their friend Akshay, 23, also suffered injuries and is now receiving medical treatment. According to Bandlaguda Inspector R. Devender, the incident was reported around 1 a.m. near the Royal Sea Hotel. The idol unexpectedly brushed against overhead power lines, sending a deadly shock through the group of nearly 20 people who were part of the Ganesh procession. Amazingly, the rest of the group escaped without injuries. This tragedy follows heavy rains that hit parts of Hyderabad, making the situation even more dangerous. The Bandlaguda police have acted swiftly, registering a case and starting an investigation to understand how this fatal accident happened. The incident comes just a day after the Ramanathapur electrocution tragedy, raising serious concerns about the safety measures during festival processions in the city. The community mourns the loss of two young lives and hopes for stricter safety rules to prevent such disasters in the future.
