India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar began an important three-day visit to Moscow on Tuesday. This trip is all about making the strong, 'time-tested' bond between India and Russia even better! Why now? Well, India’s relationship with the US is a bit tense. President Donald Trump recently doubled tariffs on Indian goods to 50%. That’s not all – India also faces an extra 25% penalty for buying Russian crude oil. So, strengthening ties with Russia comes at a crucial time. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced that during this visit, Jaishankar will co-chair the 26th Session of the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission. This is a big meeting focused on trade, economy, science, technology, and culture between the two countries. It’s scheduled for Wednesday, and it promises serious talks! Besides trade talks, Jaishankar will meet his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov. They are expected to chat about the latest attempts by the Trump administration to bring peace to Ukraine – a hot and sensitive topic on the global stage right now. The MEA said in a statement, "The visit aims to further strengthen the longstanding and time-tested India-Russia Special and Privileged Strategic partnership." They added that Jaishankar will also review the overall bilateral agenda and exchange views on regional and global issues with Lavrov. So, this trip is more than just official handshakes. It’s about deepening friendship, power talks on trade and technology, and discussing how these two big nations can work together in tricky global times. Keep your eyes on Moscow; this visit could add new spark to India-Russia ties!
