Arasavalli Sun God Temple Ready for Ratha Saptami Festival; 2.6 Lakh Devotees Expected
January 23, 2026
India’s well-known Sun God temple in Arasavalli, Srikakulam district, is fully prepared to celebrate the annual Ratha Saptami festival on Sunday. This day is considered very auspicious. Temple officials expect more than 2.6 lakh devotees, a number higher than usual Sunday crowds, since the festival falls on a weekend this year. Queue lines will open from Saturday night. The special Ksheerabhisekham ritual and other ceremonies start at 1 am on Sunday. Devotees can have 'Nijarupa darshan'—a close view—of the presiding deity Sri Surynarayana Swamy all day during Ratha Saptami.
Before the festival, a five-day event series took place. Collector Swapnil Dinakar Pundkar and officials performed urya Namaskars on the 80 feet road in Srikakulam on Friday. That evening, a grand Sobha Yatra showcased major Andhra Pradesh temples, Indian culture, and traditions. Collector Pundkar said, “Devotees will have a hassle-free darshan with the coordinated efforts of the district officials and public representatives.”
Security is strong. Srikakulam Superintendent of Police K.V. Maheswar Reddy and other officers reviewed the arrangements at the temple and nearby places. About 250 CCTV cameras have been set up to monitor the movement of devotees and maintain safety during the festival.
