Karnataka is about to host a huge event in Hubballi to distribute 42,345 houses under the PM Awas Yojana scheme built by the Karnataka Slum Development Board (KSDB). Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, and AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge will lead the programme at a venue off Mantur Road this Saturday. Local officials including Housing Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan and KSDB Chairman Prasad Abbayya have inspected the site multiple times. District administration and Hubballi Dharwad Municipal Corporation have formed committees to ensure everything runs smoothly. A massive pandal covering 10.5 acres has been set up for the event. Authorities expect around 200,000 people to attend. Roads near the venue have been cleaned and decorated lavishly with banners, posters, and Congress flags. Cardboard cut-outs of top leaders like Siddaramaiah and Mallikarjun Kharge stand tall at the site. Security is tight. Police Commissioner N. Shashikumar said, "Coordinated efforts are being made to ensure the smooth conduct of the event." Additional police forces will arrive from other districts to keep the peace. Public convenience has been factored in with six parking lots ready for 1,600 buses. KPCC secretary Sandanand Danganavar noted 24 LED screens will display the event, and food, water, and buttermilk packets will be available. However, bus services may face disruption. The NWKRTC announced 1,000 buses have been contracted to ferry attendees, likely affecting regular bus operations. This grand distribution marks a significant milestone in providing affordable housing to many families across Karnataka.
