Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan Condemns Assault on Christian Pastor in Odisha, Calls It 'Deeply Inhuman'
January 23, 2026
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has strongly condemned the assault on a Christian pastor in Odisha. Writing on X on Friday, he said the attack was "not an isolated crime," but a sign of growing violence and hatred. He alleged this atmosphere is "systematically fostered by the Sangh Parivar." Vijayan referred to reports that the pastor was forced to consume cow dung. He called the act "deeply inhuman" and blamed BJP-led governments for their silence and complicity. The Chief Minister drew a parallel with the 1999 murder of missionary Graham Staines and his two sons, warning that the same forces of intolerance still act with impunity. He said the secular fabric of India faces repeated attacks and urged firm resistance to "a coordinated attempt to undermine constitutional democracy and impose communal politics." Leader of Opposition V.D. Satheesan also condemned the assault sharply. He accused Bajrang Dal activists of carrying out the attack. On X, Satheesan called it "utterly unconstitutional," involving public humiliation, violence, and coercion. He said the incident showed the "brutal face" of anti-Christian hatred and described the situation as "mob rule, not democracy."
