The Kerala State Human Rights Commission has directed KSRTC management to take quick action on employee issues that can be solved without much cost. This comes after a petition by Haja Salim, leader of the Sulthan Bathery Kerala State Transport Drivers’ Union, who raised serious concerns about employee welfare. Judicial member K. Baijunath said the management should involve employees to find creative solutions and improve the corporation’s work. The petition stated that KSRTC staff suffer mental stress, serious illnesses, and early deaths. Problems include harsh driving schedules, poorly maintained vehicles, salary delays, unfair fines, and forced transfers to far locations. The petitioner also claimed KSRTC was unhelpful. KSRTC’s Managing Director responded by saying salaries are now paid on time. The MD added that heavy traffic, due to more vehicles on the road, causes stress and accidents. He suggested adding more buses to improve public transport and ease pressure on staff.
