Infopark Kochi Seeks SilverLine Rail Station Shift to Phase 3, Frees Land for IT Firms
December 16, 2025
Infopark Kochi has sent a proposal to the Kerala government to shift the SilverLine semi-high-speed rail station from Phase 2 to Phase 3. Initially, 45 acres in Phase 2 were set aside for the station, but this land has remained frozen. The proposal came weeks ago, before the Kerala Chief Minister expressed doubts about the project during local election talks.
Currently, 8.8 acres meant for commercial use linked to SilverLine were given to IT firm UST Global. Infopark says the Phase 3 location is better because it will have more transit options, including Kochi Metro, Water Metro, and a new expressway. Phase 3 is planned as a smart township using artificial intelligence.
If the government agrees, about 29 acres could be freed after keeping 7 acres for tracks and buffer zones. Infopark needs more land as over 100 companies wait for plots.
Some of the frozen land was originally allocated to companies like the Muthoot Group. Their 9.37-acre parcel in Phase 2 has been frozen, delaying their IT building. They have asked for another piece of land. The government has allocated 6 acres to them, with the remaining 3.37 acres promised when land is available.
If the SilverLine project is dropped, Infopark will regain all 36 frozen acres, helping ease the land crunch for IT businesses.
