IMD Issues Cold Wave Alert for Six Telangana Districts; Temperatures Dip Below 10°C

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cold wave alert for six districts in Telangana on Wednesday, December 17, 2025. Cold wave conditions are expected in isolated pockets of Adilabad, Kumaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Sangareddy, Medak, and Kamareddy districts.
The IMD bulletin states that Hyderabad and surrounding areas will experience mainly clear skies over the next 24 hours. "Mist or hazy conditions are very likely to prevail during morning or night hours," it said. The expected maximum and minimum temperatures in Hyderabad are around 29°C and 14°C, respectively.
Meanwhile, the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS) reported that eight districts recorded temperatures at or below 10°C between December 15 and 16. Kohir in Sangareddy recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 7.4°C. Other low temperatures include 7.9°C in Sirpur (Kumaram Bheem Asifabad), 8.6°C in Moinabad (Rangareddy), 8.7°C in Bheempoor (Adilabad), 9.1°C in Akbarpet (Siddipet), 9.8°C in Nizampet (Medak) and Bantwaram (Vikarabad), and 10°C in Pembi (Niraml).
The remaining 25 districts recorded temperatures between 10°C and 14°C. In urban areas, Uppal in Medchal Malkajgiri recorded a minimum temperature of 10.8°C, and Maredpally in Hyderabad recorded 12°C.
