Federal authorities have stopped a New Year's Eve terror bombing plot in Southern California. Four people linked to the Turtle Island Liberation Front were arrested. Officials said the group planned bombs at five sites including logistics centers in the Los Angeles area. The suspects were caught last week while testing explosive devices in a desert east of Los Angeles. “The successful disruption of this plot is a powerful testament to the strength of our unified response,” said LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell. The FBI and law enforcement used surveillance and arrested Audrey Illeene Carroll, Zachary Aaron Page, Dante Gaffield, and Tina Lai without incident. US Attorney General Pam Bondi called the suspects “far-left extremists” and said the plot was massive and horrific but prevented on time. The group had also talked about targeting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents with pipe bombs in the coming months. The suspects face charges including conspiracy and possession of unregistered destructive devices. During the arrest, officials found precursor chemicals the group planned to use to make bombs. Carroll allegedly said, “That would take some of them out and scare the rest of them.” The FBI will continue investigating to find if others are involved. This quick action by law enforcement agencies helped stop what could have been a major tragedy during the holiday season.
