Singapore Warns of Delhi Air Pollution, Opposition Hits Gupta Govt Hard
December 16, 2025
The Singapore High Commission issued a warning about the bad air pollution in Delhi, urging Singapore nationals to stay indoors. This spurred strong reactions from political parties. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) called it an “international embarrassment.” The Congress demanded that Rekha Gupta, the Delhi Chief Minister, resign over the crisis. The BJP dismissed the warnings as “petty politics.” Virendra Sachdeva, BJP Delhi unit chief, said foreign advisories are routine when weather worsens. The advisory from Singapore’s High Commissioner Simon Wong reminded about the strict Stage IV pollution rules, including bans on construction and demolition. AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj criticized Prime Minister Modi’s “silence” on the severe pollution, calling it “terror” filling people’s lungs with smoke. Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav accused BJP of ignoring public health and focusing only on improving its poll image. The air pollution crisis in Delhi continues to spark political fire amid growing public concern.
