Gujarat Biotechnology University (GBU) threw a grand celebration on Wednesday at its GIFT City campus, marking its second convocation. A total of 94 students proudly graduated with MSc degrees in Biotechnology, stepping out as future science stars! The star-studded event featured Chief Guest Minister of Science and Technology, Arjunbhai Modhwadia. Dilip Shanghvi, the Founder and Executive Chairman of Sun Pharmaceutical Industries and Chairman of GBU, took charge, leading the ceremony with great pride. Subeer Majumdar, the university’s Director General, shared exciting news about GBU’s progress. "We have expanded our research footprint through more than 70 competitive grants worth nearly ₹40 crore," he boomed, emphasizing the university’s growing global links and its ability to attract talent from diverse science fields. He proudly mentioned the graduates included students who bagged national fellowships, research awards, and key industry placements. Even more impressive: GBU now boasts the highest number of GAT-B qualified students from any single campus in India! Minister Modhwadia highlighted Gujarat’s rising star status in science and technology. "Biotechnology must reach coasts, farms, villages and industries," he urged. He also pushed for GBU to build four specialized satellite centers focusing on coastal, industrial, agro-food, and dryland biotechnology. Chairman Dilip Shanghvi reminded the new graduates of GBU’s unique blend of research and industry ties. "Persist even when results take time, and uphold ethics even when easier options appear," he encouraged, inspiring students to walk the path of integrity. Five golden stars shone brightest: gold medalists from each biotech specialization were honored. Waman Nachiket Somnath topped Animal Biotechnology, Sheikh Mohammed Atique Mohammed Siddique shone in Environmental Biotechnology, Radikar Madhura Damodhar led Industrial Biotechnology, Aniket excelled in Medical Biotechnology, and Jayshree Pawar triumphed in Plant Biotechnology. The fresh batch featured 20 students each from Medical and Industrial Biotechnology, 16 from Plant Biotechnology, and 19 each from Animal and Environmental Biotechnology. With such robust diversity, GBU’s future in science looks dazzling! This convocation wasn’t just a ceremony—it was a vibrant celebration of talent, hard work, and the powerful promise of science to boost society and the nation.
