Panjab University Students to Gherao BJP Offices on Dec 3, Demand Senate Poll Dates Now!
November 27, 2025
The energy is heating up at Panjab University as students gear up for a major showdown! On Wednesday, November 26, 2025, the students declared a bold plan: they will gherao (surround) the BJP offices in Punjab and Chandigarh on December 3. Their demand? The long-awaited announcement of the Panjab University senate poll schedule. The students made it clear, "The protest will continue until our demand is met." These fiery youngsters won’t walk alone — they have strong backing from farmers’ groups, religious organisations, and other student bodies.
Why this fire? The election schedule is still missing, despite Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu’s promises that it would be announced soon. The students feel they have been kept waiting far too long. Leading the charge under the banner Panjab University Bachao Morcha, they even called for a complete university shutdown on Wednesday to press for the election dates. Student leader Jodh Singh shared that protests happened near the vice chancellor’s office to make their voice impossible to ignore.
Security was tight on campus with police bringing in anti-riot vehicles to keep order. The university also declared a holiday that day, closing all offices, departments, and postponing exams. This was no accident. It follows their massive November 10 rally, where students stormed entry gates and clashed with security.
The whole movement began as a fight against the Centre’s October 28 decision to restructure Panjab University’s key bodies — the senate and the syndicate. But after pressure from political leaders and students, the Ministry of Education reversed this plan on November 7. Despite this victory, students say they won’t stop until a clear senate election schedule is on the table.
To push this forward, student leaders met the vice chancellor, who told them the schedule is currently with the Vice President of India (the university’s chancellor) for approval. Meanwhile, support is pouring in from several Punjab political parties — Aam Aadmi Party, Shiromani Akali Dal, Congress — plus farmers’ groups like Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), SKM (Non-Political), and Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Morcha.
As December 3 approaches, all eyes are on the BJP offices in Punjab and Chandigarh. Will the students’ fiery campaign finally roll out the senate election schedule? The protest refuses to die down, and the university campus is buzzing with anticipation!
