Nuapada Bypoll: BJP and BJD Clash in a High-Stakes Western Odisha Showdown
November 9, 2025
The battle for power in western Odisha's Nuapada seat is heating up with a fiery bypoll! This election is the first big test since the Mohan Majhi-led BJP government took charge in 2024. The seat became vacant after the sad passing of BJD's Rajendra Dholakia in September. Now, it’s a fierce one-on-one fight between the ruling BJP and the BJD, both eager to prove they rule the hearts of people here.
The BJP is showing muscle by choosing Jay Dholakia, son of the late MLA Rajendra Dholakia. Jay switched from BJD to BJP in a big political twist last October! The BJD, who once thought of making Jay their candidate, instead picked the strong and popular woman leader, Snehangini Chhuria, a former MLA. Congress is also in the game with veteran leader Ghasiram Majhi.
Chief Minister Mohan Majhi is leaving no stone unturned as he personally leads BJP’s campaign in Nuapada. From noisy roadshows to lively public meetings, Mohan Majhi and several cabinet ministers are pushing hard with the catchy slogan of “double-engine government.” Even Chhattisgarh’s Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai joined the campaign frenzy on Thursday!
For BJD, Jay Dholakia’s jump was a tough blow, but they have rallied strongly behind Snehangini Chhuria. BJD’s boss Naveen Patnaik hit the streets on Friday with a dynamic roadshow and public rallies. He reminded voters of BJD’s strong governance and promised a “new Nuapada,” boosting hope among his supporters.
This bypoll is not just about parties; it’s a big test of the BJP government’s popularity among tribal voters who form a large part of Nuapada. The polling happens on November 11, and all eyes will be on November 14 when the counting decides who wins this prized duel!
