Mahua in Vaishali district has turned into the election spotlight for Bihar's first voting phase on Thursday. Why the buzz? Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Lalu Prasad's own son, Tej Pratap Yadav—called Teju Bhaiya—has thrown his hat into the ring as a rebel, shaking the political tree. Once part of RJD, Tej Pratap was expelled in May and now rides his brand new party, Janshakti Janata Dal (JJD), into battle. Tej Pratap is no stranger to Mahua. This is where he first won a seat in 2015. In the last assembly, 2020, he switched gears successfully by winning from Hasanpur in Samastipur. This time, he wants Mahua again and faces tough rivals: Mukesh Raushan, the RJD sitting MLA, and Sanjay Kumar Singh from Chirag Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas). Plus, Ashma Parveen, an ex-JDU candidate, fights as an independent, and AIMIM is in the race with Bacha Rai. This area, Mahua, is also part of the Hajipur Lok Sabha constituency. That's where Tej Pratap’s younger brother and Mahagathbandhan's star, Tejashwi Yadav, wants to make his third state assembly win. Want to spice things further? Chirag Paswan holds the Hajipur Lok Sabha seat! Tej Pratap is a whirlwind of energy. The JJD has candidates all over the place, but Tej Pratap himself is a Mahua man till the core. "He spends the day campaigning elsewhere but lands in Mahua by helicopter almost daily in the evening," says Satyendra Kumar, his campaign manager. "We throw roadshows all over Mahua," he adds, showing the battle is on the streets! Tejashwi is trying to keep calm, backing his party’s Mukesh Raushan. He told supporters, "Chahe koi aaye ya jaye (No matter who comes or goes). No one is bigger than the party. Laluji has given the party ticket to Mukesh Raushan for contesting from here. None should live in confusion." But Tej Pratap fires back, accusing Raushan of ignoring Mahua's needs. Supporters like Prem Kumar Mahto shine a spotlight on Tej Pratap’s achievements: "He built the government medical college he promised after becoming health minister. Roads were fixed, and he stays connected with voters." Going bold this time! Tej Pratap’s JJD shows off their 'black board' election symbol, aiming for education and growth. He pledges an engineering college, an international sports stadium, and raising Mahua to a district level. With these promises, the election battle in Mahua is nothing less than a blockbuster. Who will win this thrilling fight? Stay tuned for the verdict!
