Boom! A fierce Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon on Saturday shook the calm, killing four people and wounding three, the Lebanese health ministry confirmed. This blow came in Nabatiyeh district, where Israel claims to strike Hezbollah targets. According to the Lebanese National News Agency, the Israeli army hit a car with a guided missile around 10:30 pm (2030 GMT). What’s the backstory? Israel and Hezbollah have a tense history. Even though a ceasefire started in November 2024, Israel still keeps troops in five southern Lebanese zones and carries out routine air raids, saying they're fighting Hezbollah militants. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, hoping for peace, urged talks with Israel in October after US President Donald Trump brokered a Gaza ceasefire. But Aoun accused Israel of ignoring his call and instead ramping up attacks on Lebanon. Hezbollah, which opposes Israel fiercely, fired rockets into Israel after the Gaza war erupted in October 2023. This led to a bloody conflict lasting over a year and ending with a ceasefire last year. Even though Hezbollah took a heavy hit in the fight, it still has money and weapons. The United States is pushing hard for Lebanon to disarm Hezbollah, but the group and its allies strongly resist. With tensions sky-high, this latest strike could ignite fresh troubles along the volatile Lebanon-Israel border. Will peace hold, or are we heading toward another firestorm?
