Taiwan's Ministry of National Defence (MND) has raised a red flag over fresh Chinese military moves near its borders. On Saturday, six People's Liberation Army (PLA) aircraft took to the skies, and eight People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) vessels cruised close to Taiwan's waters, showing China's muscle-flexing up close. Taiwan's MND shared this spicy update on X, saying, "6 sorties of PLA aircraft and 8 PLAN vessels operating around Taiwan were detected up until 6 a.m. (UTC+8) today. 3 out of 6 sorties crossed the median line and entered Taiwan's eastern and southwestern Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ). #ROCArmedForces have monitored the situation and responded." The median line is the unofficial boundary in the Taiwan Strait, and crossing it is like poking a sleeping tiger. Earlier, the MND also reported, "5 sorties of PLA aircraft and 8 PLAN vessels operating around Taiwan were detected up until 6 a.m. (UTC+8) today. 3 out of 5 sorties crossed the median line and entered Taiwan's eastern and southwestern ADIZ. #ROCArmedForces have monitored the situation and responded." Taiwan's military is sharply watching and responding to these provocations, proving it will not back down easily. But Taiwan is not just watching and reacting — it is revamping its defense and security big-time. Executive Yuan Secretary-General Xavier Chang told The Taipei Times about the government's powerful response to increasing threats from China. This is no mere talk. It’s part of President William Lai's 17-point national security strategy announced in March. This grand plan aims to protect Taiwan from Beijing's relentless attempts to chip away at its freedom, sneak into its military, twist public opinion, and seduce young people and businesses toward reunification tales. The strategy calls for strong laws and actions to block every pathway that China might use to interfere. The Executive Yuan has set its sights on 120 key tasks, including amending or introducing 21 laws. Among these are the Special Statute on Strengthening the Resilience of the Economy, Society, and National Security, updates to the Cybersecurity Management Act, and the Industrial Innovation Statute. These important legal moves show that Taiwan means business in beefing up its defenses and economy while tensions with China rise like a pressure cooker. Taiwan stands firm, saying loudly and clearly: We won’t be pushed around!
