Big news in the auto world! Starting October 24, shares of Tata Motors’ passenger vehicle business will trade under a sparkling new name: Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV). This is the grand finale of a smart breakup called a 'demerger,' splitting the company’s passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles into two separate identities. The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) gave the green signal earlier, updating the trading name from “Tata Motors Ltd” to “TMPV.” What does this mean? Tata Motors’ huge commercial vehicle operations — think trucks, buses, and defense vehicles — will keep their old name and continue as before. But all passenger vehicles, including the buzz-worthy electric vehicles (EVs) and the luxury Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) brand, will now shine under TMPV. This change started officially on October 1, when Tata Motors gave its shareholders an equal split — one share in the commercial vehicle company for every share they had. The record date to grab these shares was October 14. Tata Motors first revealed this juicy plan back in March 2024, aiming for faster decision-making, clearer focus, and better use of money. The passenger vehicle unit now bundles domestic cars, EVs, and the stylish JLR — the company’s top growth stars. Meanwhile, the commercial side sticks with its heavyweights like trucks and buses. Experts say this split lets investors see each business’s true worth separately. For example, Nomura values TMPV at Rs 367 and the commercial vehicles at Rs 365, though it warns of short-term ups and downs. SBI Securities is optimistic, predicting TMPV’s stock could hover between Rs 285 and Rs 384 and commercial vehicles between Rs 320 and Rs 470. After October 14, Tata Motors’ stock price took a 40% dip. But don’t panic! This was a technical move, not a drop in real value, as the market now values the two companies on their own. The commercial vehicle division plans to list separately soon, once all approvals are sorted. So, what’s the big deal? Tata Motors now begins a fresh journey by officially parting passenger cars and commercial vehicles. It’s a game-changing moment, bringing crystal-clear focus on electric and luxury cars while letting trucks and buses cruise on their own path. Investors, get ready to catch these two speedy rides separately on the stock track!
