Get ready Delhi, a cloud seeding magic flight has just taken off to fight your air pollution woes! Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa confirmed that a trial flight for cloud seeding was carried out earlier on Thursday. This experiment, which was delayed many times since July, hopes to trigger artificial rain—a cool idea to wash away smog clouds choking our Capital. The first plan to perform the cloud seeding was on Wednesday, but it was stopped because there weren’t enough clouds in the sky. Mr. Sirsa is hopeful though, saying, “Delhi is ready to witness its first artificial rainfall experiment. All systems - from aircraft to meteorological and environmental monitoring - are in place. Now, the only thing we await is the arrival of suitable clouds, expected around October 29-30, when the actual seeding will be conducted.” The special aircraft took off from the IIT Kanpur airstrip and flew a curious route. It covered Kanpur, then zoomed via Meerut, Khekra, Burari, Sadakpur, Bhojpur, Aligarh, and finally circled back to Kanpur. During its sky journey, cloud seeding flares were fired successfully between Khekra and Burari. This was to test the flight’s performance, check equipment endurance, and review safety processes—all crucial for the big rainfall mission. The entire flight lasted about four hours, providing an important practice run so the artificial rain plan can be done with perfect scientific precision. Mr. Sirsa’s team is eager, and they’ve done their homework well, making sure Delhi soon gets the refreshing raindrops it badly needs.
