Hold your hats, folks! Union Home Minister Amit Shah has given a hearty thumbs-up to release a whopping Rs 1,950.80 crore as the second instalment from the central share of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) for the year 2025-26. This hefty amount is split with Rs 384.40 crore for Karnataka and a massive Rs 1,566.40 crore going to Maharashtra. Why this big money move? To provide swift relief to people devastated by severe floods and heavy rains caused by this year’s fierce southwest monsoon.
As per the official statement, under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and guidance of Amit Shah himself, the Centre is fully committed to helping states hit hard by natural disasters like floods, landslides, and cloudbursts. This financial push ensures the states have the resources to offer quick and effective relief.
But that’s not all - 2025-26 Monsoon has seen a flood of support from the Centre. So far, it has released a whopping Rs 13,603.20 crore to 27 states from the SDRF and another Rs 2,189.28 crore from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) to 15 states. Additionally, from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF), Rs 4,571.30 crore has been showered on 21 states, and Rs 372.09 crore from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF) to nine states.
The ground teams are equally pumped up! The Centre has provided all the logistic backing needed - from deploying teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to the Army and Air Force. In fact, this year witnessed the maximum deployment ever - 199 NDRF teams worked tirelessly across 30 states and union territories to rescue and help people caught in floods, landslides, and cloudbursts.
So, with this financial and on-ground muscle, Karnataka and Maharashtra are now better armed to battle Mother Nature’s fury. As Amit Shah’s office said, the support will ‘help the two states provide immediate relief assistance to people affected by extremely heavy rainfall and floods during the southwest monsoon this year.' How’s that for a bold, quick kick to aid disaster-hit citizens?
