Karnataka's Big Move: Rs 2,350 Crore Cricket Stadium for 80,000 Fans at Suryanagar!

October 18, 2025

Bengaluru just got a huge reason to cheer! Karnataka’s cabinet has given a thumbs-up to a dazzling new cricket stadium, costing a whopping Rs 2,350 crore, at Suryanagar in Anekal, on the city's outskirts. Picture this: a massive stadium spread over 75 acres, designed to seat a jaw-dropping 80,000 fans. That's more than double the 32,000-seat capacity of the old M Chinnaswamy Stadium, which has struggled to keep up with today’s cricket craze. But wait, this stadium isn’t just about cricket! The government plans it to be a grand arena for concerts, public meetups, and big conclaves too. During the cabinet meeting, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister HK Patil explained that though the cabinet gave in-principle approval, the project’s full details will come after a detailed report by experts. "A final decision on costs will be taken after relevant departments present a detailed project report," he said. Patil also shared some spicy news about the Kannada language test for government job candidates. The cabinet rejected a proposal that would have exempted certain officers who passed SSLC with Kannada subjects from this mandatory test. According to him, "proficiency in language cannot be assumed even after passing SSLC with Kannada as a subject." In another popular decision, the government extended exemptions from occupancy certificates (OCs) to smaller properties under 1,200 sq ft, including two or three-story buildings with proper plan approvals. This move, expanding a scheme started in Bengaluru, will help thousands of property owners in urban areas of Karnataka get legal recognition for their homes built on revenue sites. So what’s the big picture? Karnataka is set to shine in sports with this stunning new stadium, while property owners rejoice with easier legal processes. The combo promises a bright future for both cricket lovers and citizens dreaming of property regularisation. Stay tuned for more updates on this mega project that’s all set to rewrite Karnataka’s sporting and real estate story!
