Drama unfolds in Haryana’s police world! Haryana IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar, who tragically died by suicide on October 7, 2025, has stirred a storm with fresh charges added to his FIR. The big change came after his wife, senior IAS officer Amneet P. Kumar, demanded that the right sections of the SC/ST Act be included in the case. She wrote to police asking them to correct the FIR with Section 3 (2) (v) of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act – the law that punishes serious crimes against SC/ST persons with life imprisonment and a fine. Confirming the update, Chandigarh IG Pushpendra Kumar, heading the six-member Special Investigation Team, said on October 12, 2025, that this section had now been invoked. But the family isn’t happy yet. They have not agreed to an autopsy until their demands are met. The case has caused a big police reshuffle too. Rohtak Superintendent of Police Narendra Bijarniya, one of the officers accused by the late IPS officer’s wife of abetting his death, was removed on October 11, 2025. The new Rohtak SP, Surinder Singh Bhoria, quickly took charge. Amneet boldly demanded in a letter that the FIR name accused persons, including Haryana DGP Shatrujeet Kapur and the removed Rohtak SP Bijarniya. The initial FIR had charges under abetment of suicide and some SC/ST Act sections, but it did not fully capture the seriousness of the case's caste discrimination angle. On the political front, on October 11, 2025, Haryana ministers like Krishan Lal Panwar and Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi met Puran Kumar's family. It seemed like a smooth talk to get the family to allow the post-mortem and cremation. Haryana’s Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini stepped in with a strong warning saying, "The guilty will face action irrespective of their position," and he urged the Opposition to stay away from politics on this sensitive issue. A huge support tree has grown around the family. A 31-member committee, Shaheed Y. Puran Singh Nyaya Sangharsh Morcha, announced a grand 'mahapanchayat' in Chandigarh on October 12, 2025, to raise their voices. Why is this case so high drama? In a 'final note' left by Puran Kumar, he accused eight senior IPS officers, including the Haryana DGP and the ex-Rohtak SP, of harassment and caste-based discrimination. Known for his fight for police rights, Puran Kumar's death has shaken the state’s police and political scenes. His wife says it was “systematic persecution” that drove him to take this extreme step. The police, meanwhile, have promised a “prompt, impartial and thorough investigation.” So, all eyes remain glued on this thriller unfolding in Haryana’s corridors of power.
