PM Modi Shines Spotlight on India’s Digital Democracy and Fintech Power at Global Fest with UK PM

October 10, 2025

Mumbai came alive as Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared India a shining example of democracy and technology at the Global Fintech Fest! Joined by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Modi described India as a land where democratic spirit meets cutting-edge tech, making it one of the most digitally inclusive countries in the world. He called India the “mother of democracy” where democracy is more than just elections—it's a powerful pillar of governance seen clearly in technology’s reach. “India is not only sharing technology with other countries but also helping them develop it. This is not digital aid, it is digital empowerment,” Modi passionately said. Highlighting India’s fintech magic, Modi explained how digital tools have turned banking from a privilege into a right for every citizen. The secret sauce? The JAM trinity - Jan Dhan accounts, Aadhaar identity system, and mobile phones. Thanks to these, the UPI payment system is a superstar, handling a whopping twenty billion transactions monthly amounting to over twenty-five lakh crore rupees! PM Modi didn’t stop there. He also spotlighted India’s vast digital public infrastructure like the Aadhaar-enabled payment system, Bharat Bill Payment System, Bharat-QR, DigiLocker, DigiYatra, Government e-Marketplace (GeM), Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), and Open Credit Enablement Network (OCEN). Calling Mumbai “the city of energy, the city of enterprise, and the city of endless possibilities,” Modi warmly welcomed UK PM Keir Starmer and celebrated the India-UK partnership. This alliance, he said, promises to strengthen the global financial landscape and push ethical AI worldwide. In Modi’s own words, India’s AI strategy is all about "equitable access, population-scale skilling, and responsible deployment," showing the world how a tech giant stays ethical and inclusive. Truly, India’s digital journey is not just about convenience but about equality and empowerment for all.
