Farmers Face Huge ₹24 Lakh Crore Loss in 9 Years, AIKS Blames MSP Gap!

October 10, 2025

Hold on tight as India's farming drama unfolds! On October 9, 2025, the All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS), a farmers' group with a Left leaning, dropped a bombshell. They said farmers lost a massive ₹3 lakh crore just in 2024-25 because the minimum support price (MSP) fixed by the government does not cover the real cost of farming. And wait for it—the total loss from 2016 to 2025 is a whopping ₹24 lakh crore! How's that for a shocker? The AIKS compared the costs farmers actually spend on 20 big crops like paddy, wheat, cotton, and more, with the MSP announced by the Union Government. Farmers are reportedly stuck between high expenses and low income. AIKS leaders Vijoo Krishnan and P. Krishna Prasad slammed the government, saying, “Considering the crops including milk, entire commercial crops, vegetables, fruits, meat, egg, fish etc. out of the current MSP system and procurement, the losses Indian peasantry suffers is manifold higher, leading to indebtedness, suicides daily on an average of 31 farmers; all this is to ensure corporate profit under the corporate-communal BJP-led NDA regime.” Strong words, indeed! But the story doesn’t end here. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan fought back saying MSP is set by the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP) after talking with farmers’ groups. “The Cabinet approved the CACP’s recommendations,” he told reporters, defending the government's stand. AIKS further revealed horrifying numbers: Paddy alone caused losses of around ₹97,000 crore in 2024-25, and an eye-popping ₹7 lakh crore over the past nine years. In Bihar, things are bleak too. Paddy, wheat, and maize farmers lost about ₹10,000 crore in just one year, 2024-25, because the pricing formula C2+50% was not followed, and the mandi system shutdown since 2006 complicated matters further. The farmers’ fight isn’t just about money—it’s about survival. With 31 farmer suicides reported daily, the crisis screams for urgent attention. As this tug of war between AIKS and the government heats up, millions watch with bated breath. Will the voices of the farmers finally break the corporate chains and bring them fair prices, or will the silent suffering continue? Stay tuned!
