Big news from Karnataka! The important Social and Educational Survey, popularly called the 'caste census,' that started on September 22 was supposed to end on October 7. But guess what? It’s getting more time! The Department of School Education and Literacy recently issued a memo saying the survey will be extended. Why? Because more time is needed to complete the survey properly, said officials from the Backward Classes Welfare Department. Here's the spicy part - schools are adjusting their timings to help out. After the Dasara holidays, starting October 8, the government and aided schools in Greater Bengaluru will hold classes only from 8 am to 1 pm until October 24. This gives teachers, who are acting as survey enumerators, time after school hours to finish collecting data. In the rest of Karnataka, government and aided schools will have shorter classes, from 8 am to 1 pm, but only till October 12. This smart move is to make sure regular learning doesn’t get hurt while the survey wraps up. Remember, this survey is huge! It uses a detailed 60-question questionnaire and is planned carefully, costing the state about Rs 420 crore. The Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes is running it. There was a similar survey in 2015 costing Rs 165.51 crore, but it was later discarded. The survey start was slightly delayed in Bengaluru for training and preparations, but now it's fully underway. Officials say a formal announcement about the extension will come soon. So, students and teachers, get ready for some changes in your routine, all in the name of this big data hunt to better understand Karnataka’s social structure!
