Taylor Swift is back with a bang! Her latest film, “The Official Release Party of a Showgirl,” which is more like a big, dazzling commercial for her new album "The Life of a Showgirl," topped the weekend box-office charts with a massive $33 million in ticket sales in the US and Canada. Running for just 89 minutes, this special release played across 3,702 theaters and grabbed the number one spot easily. Fans loved it! About 88% of the audience were women and 70% were white, showing who her devoted fans are. Even without reviews from critics, the movie scored an A+ in CinemaScore exit polls, proving Swift’s magic on screen. Overseas, it earned another $13 million! This musical marvel comes right after Taylor’s huge movie hit last year, the concert documentary “The Eras Tour,” which also rocked the box office. Her new release pushed Warner Bros.' “One Battle After Another” to second place, which earned $11.1 million in its second weekend. Meanwhile, “The Smashing Machine,” a sports drama featuring Dwayne Johnson (aka The Rock), came in third with $6 million. Though loved by critics and pushed as a possible Oscar contender, it still struggled to match Swift’s star power and box office charm. What’s incredible is Taylor dropped this film with just two weeks' notice and almost no usual movie marketing! She simply used her huge social media presence and news coverage to fill theaters, unlike studios that spend millions promoting movies. The film’s one-weekend-only run was a surprise hit for theaters trying to bounce back after a rough summer and the pandemic’s impact. Hollywood insiders had mixed feelings — some annoyed by the sudden release, others impressed by Swift’s pull. In the end, Taylor Swift's genius once again changed the game, showing she’s not just a pop queen but a box office queen too!
